One firefighter suffered a minor injury while battling a four alarm fire that spread to two homes in Bayonne on Thursday, Sept. 21, authorities said.

At 9:49 a.m, firefighters were on scene of a heavy fire in the rear of both 142 and 144 West 5th St., Bayonne Fire Chief Keith Weaver said. The fire was declared under control at 10:57 a.m., Weaver said.

There were no injuries to any residents, while a firefighter was transported to a hospital for treatment of a minor injury, Weaver said. The cause of the fire remains under investigation but does not appear to be suspicious, Weaver said. The eight displaced occupants are under the care of the Bayonne Office of Emergency Management and Red Cross, Weaver said.
